A Message from the Maestro

A Message from the Maestro …

On May 17, A Grand Piano Concert X2 will conclude WSO’s highly successful 2024 -2025 season on an artistic high note.

Our guest soloists, Carol Ann Eicher and her husband, Douglas Lane, will perform Camille St. Säens’s ever-popular work for two pianos and orchestra – Carnival of the Animals.

I am both fascinated and so pleased that Carol Ann was a WSO Young Artist Competition winner in 1984. She has achieved a wonderful career in music, currently as a faculty member of the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.

In addition to the Carnival of the Animals, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss II, she and Douglas will perform the Pizzicato Polka for
4-hand piano. Also, she will solo on Gerald Finzi’s gorgeous work for piano and string orchestra, Eclogue.

And, there’s even more! The orchestra, fresh off receiving two standing ovations for our March 22 “At Your Request” concert, will perform Emmanuel Chabrier’s delightfully rhythmic work España, Borodin’s beautiful On the Steppes of Central Asia, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s dynamic Procession of the Nobles.

At a time when U.S. symphony orchestra concert attendance is declining, attendance for WSO concerts continues to grow. Thank you for your continued support and for spreading the word about our concerts!

I look forward to seeing you on May 17 for what promises to be a spectacular end to a highly successful season.
