Preserving the Musical Arts within Our Communities
Uplifting & Reconnecting All Ages through the Universal Language of Music
A Message from the Maestro
Our recent Pops Gala performance, Let’s Play Among the Stars, has been widely acclaimed for the “absolute coolness” of a space-themed concert performed where America’s astronauts actually trained.
Also lauded were our seamless use of the audio/visual technology available at our host venue “The Fuge,” the incredible voice of our guest artist, Kristen Plumley, and the amazing sound of your Warminster Symphony Orchestra.
A round of applause to all those who attended and generously supported the raffles, and silent auction. Those proceeds help the orchestra to continue our mission of bringing great music and premier soloists to our local community. We also deeply appreciate the volunteers, who worked so very hard to create this stellar event. My hat is off to each of them.
Our March program entitled, At Your Request, was chosen based on requests from our donors. This “People’s Choice” concert will include “The Moldau,” by Smetana, which was the most requested piece. Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” (featuring the can-can), the second-most requested piece, will also be performed. The music of John Williams and Aaron Copland also received a significant number of votes, so “A John Williams Tribute” as performed at the Kennedy Center, and Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody,” based on the ending of his Appalachian Spring, is also on the program.
Given the large number of famous composers, each of whom were requested by a fewer number of donors, we have programmed Johann Strauss Jr.’s novelty piece “Artist’s Quadrille.” When you hear it, you will smile and understand why.
The highlight of our March program will showcase the dazzling abilities of our 2024 YAC winners. Elijah Song, age 13, performing the “Movement I” of the Lalo Cello Concerto, and17-year-old Samuel Cao, performing “Movement I” of the Schumann Cello Concert. This is a concert not to be missed.
On April 5, we will host our 40th annual Young Artist Competition — a delightful experience for all who are privileged to attend. Complete information is available on our website. If you know of a talented young person, under 18, with great musical ability, please encourage them to visit Young Artist Competition at www.warminstersymphony.org to apply.
Thank you again to all who support Warminster Symphony Orchestra and I look forward to seeing you on March 22!
